Sniper by starlight?

This is the story of Helen Wilkins, an expert horsewoman and long-range sniper, who is the widow of a U.S. Marine, and mother of a young girl. The reader learns how she is enlisted to form and train an elite sniper unit, mounted on Mustangs, to target terrorists in Afghanistan.

The book opens with Nellie's last mission before being demobbed, where she successfully targets a terrorist leader in Afghanistan. Tensions begin when she and her spotter, Jimmy Johnson, have their future plans abruptly cancelled and are whisked back to the U.S. This final mission proves to be more dangerous than they could ever have imagined as they have been chosen by a group of conspirators to assassinate a prominent, corrupt, and despotic politician. Not only does the operation test their consciences, but life-changing sacrifices threaten to destroy family ties. Intrigue intensifies as they train in secret and assume the persona of a woman and her special needs son on a tiny farm in Maryland, close to where the target is due to stay in a heavily guarded military compound. Tensions build as they carefully plan and ultimately carry out their mission.?

The plot is skillfully interwoven with scenes of the main conspirators and the aftermath of the assassination, the cover up and installation of a new President, followed by the escape of Nellie and her Spotter with new identities and locations.

The adventures of Nellie continue when, three years into witness protection, she inadvertently stumbles on a plot by a NAZI pseudo-scientist who believes he is the descendant of a WWII death camp doctor. Follow Nellie as she uses her combat skills to evade those bent on killing her while she travels from Oregon to Vancouver, linking up with her previous compatriots, then on to D.C.and ultimately to Idaho where the doctor has his laboratory.

Nellie and the Nazi Diamonds?

Three years have passed and we find Nellie in New York. Having attained her degree in psychology, from Oregon State University, she has just started work as a counsellor at the VA Hospital in Brooklyn. Settling into a “normal” life with her new husband, home and job, she feels content with her future, especially getting to catch up with her daughter, after many years apart. Her reverie about the past few years is suddenly interrupted when she sees her neighbor, a young Dutchman who works in the Diamond District, being attached by two men. Interceding, she herself is overcome, drugged and hustled into a waiting van. What follows is an encounter with illegal gold miners in South America, a race against time and the elements to save themselves, and others caught in the conflict. Above all, to return a bag of antique diamonds, stolen by WWII Nazis, to their rightful owners.
