Imagine you want to write a secret note to your friend. You scribble it on a piece of paper and put it into a magic box! ?? This magic box can change how the note looks (ASCII or UTF-8), lock it so no one else can read it (encryption ??) and squish it so it's smaller (compression)!

Getting Ready for the Journey! ????

Now, the box is ready to start its journey! It first needs to know where to go. It gets this from the magic guide (the session layer) that knows all the secret pathways (VPNs). The guide also gives the box a special key (port number) to unlock a gate (firewall) during its journey! ????

Crossing the Big Bridge! ????

Next, the box arrives at a big bridge (transport layer). Here, it chooses between two magic carpets, TCP or UDP. If it chooses TCP, it'll even send a thank you note when it arrives at its destination! ????

Travelling Around the World! ???

The box then visits a map room (the network layer) where it gets stickers showing its home (your private IP) and its friend's home (public IP of your friend). ????

Meeting the Computer Hardware! ????

After this, it meets the computer hardware (the data link layer), which gives it another set of stickers: your computer's name tag (MAC address) and your friend's computer's name tag. It's like getting badges for the journey!

Finally, Sailing on the Ocean! ????

Now, it's time to sail in the big ocean! Your magic box travels through many different places, like switches and routers, and even goes through super big cables under the sea! Sometimes, it may get tired and stop (when TTL expires), but most of the times, it finds its way to the destination! ????

Arriving at the Destination! ????

When it arrives at your friend's house (computer), everything that was packed at your house is unpacked. If it chose the TCP carpet, it'll even send a "thank you" note! ?? The key from the magic guide unlocks the gate, the note is unlocked from its encryption, the note is unsquished (decompressed) and finally, the note is ready to be read by your friend! ??
