Costa Rica Scuba Diving Adventure At Catalina Islands
World renown, Catalina Islands attracts divers from all corners of the world to enjoy the prolific Pacific Ocean marine life but if you are keen to dive with schooling giant Pacific Manta Rays Catalina Islands is the most sought-after scuba dive location in Costa Rica.
There is one larger island and 20 smaller volcanic rock formations and pinnacles that form the islands less than 30 minutes off the mainland in the Gulf Of Papagayo with many other local dive sites and Islands.
The optimum time to see the schooling manta rays is between November and May. It is not uncommon to sight them with wingspans from 5 to 7 Meters. Other months and dive sites include manta rays as well but not as predictable.
In addition to manta rays you will see white tip sharks, schooling large eye jacks, cow nose rays, spotted eagle rays, mobula rays and many other species of schooling fish.
The diving is from 12 to 24 meters with visibility around 19 meters due to our lovely plankton and nutrient filled waters. Water temperature ranges from 24 to 29 degrees C.

This area is popular for humpback whale sightings with two migrations a year. Northern whales appear in December and remain until April, Southern humpbacks arrive in July and stay until November. This means that in Costa Rica you can see humpback whales nine months of the year. The whales are usually escorted by pilot whales and orcas and are visible from your boat underway and the surface interval.
Beach resorts are within an hour of Liberia International Airport (LIR) easily accessible to the islands with gorgeous sunsets year around.
