More than 30 current and retired MLB and NFL players hit the links with community leaders and business partners to raise money for the AdventHealth Sebring Health and Wellness Center on Friday at the Sun N Lake Golf Club.
The AdventHealth Sebring Foundation event was hosted by retired MLB player Thomas “Flash” Gordon, who is also chair of the wellness center campaign.?
“I am so humbled by the outpouring of support we have received from the community for this project. I have been blessed with good friends who graciously came out to help raise money and awareness and promote the need for a wellness center in the community,’’ Gordon said. “We will be able to help so many generations of people with this center. Giving back to the community where I was raised is very important to me. This is my home. This community has given me so much support and love over the years, I am just happy to be able to give back to them.’’
Christen Johnson, vice president and administrator of AdventHealth Wauchula, said the foundation has raised about $2 million of the $5 million needed for the 21,000 square foot wellness center which will be located on the AdventHealth Sebring campus.
“More than 75% of our patients end up being admitted because of poor lifestyle choices,’’ Johnson said. “Our goal with the wellness center is to provide a place where our communities can come and participate in classes and seminars on making healthier lifestyle choices.”?
?After the round of golf, community members were regaled with stories from the careers of Gordon and fellow players.
