Whether it is oil-based needle coke or coal-based needle coke, the production process consists of three parts: raw material pretreatment, delayed coking and calcination.
The main difference in the production process between coal-based needle coke and oil-based needle coke is the pretreatment of raw materials. Oil-based needle coke is processed from heavy oil, and coal-based needle coke is processed from coal tar.
Oil-based coke products have a lower CTE value than coal-based coke products and have better thermal shock resistance. The resistivity of oil-based coke products is slightly lower than that of coal-based coke products.
Oil-based coke is more suitable for the production of high-quality graphitized electrodes, the main difference lies in the CTE value.
