Advantages and disadvantages of flying probe test

Advantages of flying probe testing include:

High flexibility: Flying probe testing does not require customized special test frames, and can quickly adapt to PCB boards of various sizes, shapes and complexities, especially suitable for small batch, multi-variety, and fast iteration products.

High test accuracy: The flying probe can accurately locate any test point and has good detection capabilities for high-density, fine-pitch circuit boards.

Relatively low cost: No expensive special test frames are required, which can effectively save costs for new product development, sample verification or small batch production stages.

Wide range of application: Suitable for small batch production and sample testing, it can quickly check PCB manufacturing problems and improve product yield.

Disadvantages of flying probe testing include:

Relatively slow test speed: Flying probes need to be contacted point by point for testing, and the test time may be longer for large-scale, high-density PCB boards.

Probe wear: After long-term use, the probe may wear out, affecting the test accuracy and requiring regular maintenance and replacement.

Not suitable for mass production: For large-scale, standardized PCB boards, test rack testing is more suitable because of its higher testing speed and efficiency.
