Advancing the Treatment of Lymphedema with the Airos Pump

Lymphedema is a blockage within your lymphatic system that causes swelling, pain, and discomfort. Currently, there is no cure. However, the condition does respond to treatment. At Medkinect, we aim to advance the treatment of lymphedema through innovative products and newly discovered treatments.

More About Lymphedema

There are two types of lymphedema; primary (congenital defect of the lymph system) and secondary (injury or trauma to the lymph system). There are three descriptive phases of lymphedema based on severity. The lymphatic system is a part of your immune system and when lymph fluid builds up, the lymph node becomes blocked. The blockage prevents lymph fluid from draining properly and swelling will occur. Swelling is most commonly seen in the arm or leg but includes the fingers and toes.

Who Is Affected by Lymphedema?

3-5 million Americans suffer from lymphedema. The condition can be inherited or caused by cancer and its treatment, surgery, or infection. There are a number of risk factors that play a role as well. Elderly individuals, those dealing with obesity, or rheumatoid or psoriatic arthritis are more likely to struggle with the condition.

Patients suffering from lymphedema are often stuck in their homes as they resist the public for both mental and physical reasons. Common and limiting symptoms are swelling, lack of mobility, tight and painful skin, skin thickening, warts and blisters, moderate to severe itching, burning feeling, trouble sleeping, and loss of hair. The severity of each person’s lymphedema certainly determines their daily activities but a major concern for these patients is their lack of activity or exercise. It becomes the “chicken and the egg” thought process. Patients don’t want to leave the house because it’s painful or uncomfortable while their lack of activity only worsens the problem.

Solutions That Work

At Medkinect, we are consistently looking for products that are head and shoulders above others in the marketplace. Our partnership with Airos Medical is a prime example of this. The Airos Compression Pump offers a number of benefits that similar products lack. For example, the Airos Pump offers…

  • A large digital screen that’s easy to see and use for our elderly or vision deficient patients.
  • An easily visible timer
  • Automatic garment deflation
  • Easy to pull o-ring zippers
  • Pre-treatment options optimizing your experience
  • Multiple compression mode options
  • The Airos pump is the only lymphedema pump and garment approved by Medicare with 6 compression compartments!

All of these well thought out features help patient compliance; meaning you’ll use the pump more often because it’s so easy.

What Is Compression Pump Therapy?

Compression therapy offers many benefits and has been performed since the 1960s for acute and chronic swelling issues. It’s used to treat chronic vascular problems including lymphedema, venous insufficiency, and arterial insufficiency. Essentially, a compression pump is performing like your own lymphatic system would if it were healthy.

When suffering from lymphedema your lymphatic system works overtime to correct lymph fluid flow and drainage issues. The Airos compression pump kicks it in high gear with the help of a physician-driven diagnosis and oversight. Although recognizing the early symptoms of lymphedema is extremely important, compression pump therapy is routinely one of the answers to solving the problem. Our Airos compression pump is the “new kid on the block” with updated technology in a market that has many outdated and ineffective products.

There’s not a better feeling than helping someone through a great product and education. At Medkinect, we’re not physicians and we don’t claim to be! However, we know our products well. We are a preferred distributor and well versed in the related literature and studies performed to support physicians when prescribing the Airos compression pump.

Whether you are a physician or a patient with questions about the Airos Pump, we are happy to help. Reach out to us at any time!
