ADVANCING THE ROLE OF QUEEN MOTHERS IN CUSTOMARY LAND GOVERNANCE AND IN THE PROMOTION OF WOMEN’S LAND RIGHTS IN GHANA
COLANDEF continues to deepen its commitment to promoting women’s land rights in Ghana. As part of this commitment, we have a focus on strengthening the capacity of Queen Mothers in Ghana to position them as active participants in land governance and land policy. Through this capacity strengthening, Queen Mothers would also become advocates for their collective rights as female traditional leaders as well as for other women in Ghana.

The New Chapter-Integrating Learning and Expanding Scope
In the coming 24 months, beginning in October 2024 we will start a new chapter of our focus on the Queen Mothers’ Platform-Ghana. Under this new chapter, we will focus on
This means, Queen mothers across all the 16 regions, even though part of the project beneficiaries, will also serve as a channel through which our interventions will be channelled to beneficiary women farmers to secure their land rights. Secondly, the Queen Mothers will continue to gain training, support and assistance from COLANDEF to strengthen their capacity and knowledge on Ghana’s land laws especially the Land Act 2020 (Act 1036).? This will enable them to become resourceful and confident to engage in policy discussions at the national level.? The long-term goal for this project is to strengthen the visibility, legitimacy and recognition of the Queen Mothers’ Platform Ghana, as the legitimate and recognised voice for the promotion and advancement of women’s land and natural resource rights in Ghana.
