Advancing Our Strategic Plan

Advancing Our Strategic Plan

This week, you probably saw some news about the arena study we released. We completed this study in partnership with Visit Cincy, the CBC/CRBC, 3CDC, the Port, as well as the City and the County. We’ve appreciated your feedback about it, and we’re looking forward to more engagement and conversation with the regional community about the importance of a modern arena. You can read the study here.

From a strategic perspective, the Chamber’s goal is to grow the population, the economy, and the cultural vibrancy in our region. A modern arena does just that: it supports small businesses that rely on visitor traffic, it brings cultural events, music, and art to our region, and it makes Cincinnati a place where people want to stay.??It has a billion-dollar economic impact during construction and pays dividends each year in driving economic growth. While the report is just the first step in a process that includes deep engagement and more work to create a financial plan, the need is clear. A modern arena is the missing piece in our region’s array of top-tier cultural assets.

This week, we held our annual meeting of members. We recapped our year and did deep dives on the launch of the MBA Fund I, the Gen Z in the Workplace Report, and the Brand Cincy Hub. We also bid farewell to four fantastic board members who served us over the last nine years. I’m grateful to former Board Chair Molly North, and board directors Tom Williams, Scott Robertson, and Lonnie Grayson for their service to our region’s business community.

Next week is, of course, Thanksgiving. It is also Small Business Saturday, the marquee day of the year to support your local entrepreneur. In partnership with Duke Energy and Huntington Bank, we’re bringing the Small Business Saturday spirit straight to business districts across our region by celebrating?Storefronts to the Forefront Shop Local Day. Now in its third year, Storefronts to the Forefront has celebrated 23 local business districts and provided support to small businesses through grants, storytelling, and marketing. I invite you to learn more about each of them and support a small business (or two or three!) in your neighborhood on November 30th.

Center for Research & Data

This week, the Chamber and its partners released the feasibility study for a proposed modern arena in our city. As part of the study, the Center for Research & Data detailed the economic impact of a proposed arena. The construction phase alone is projected to generate $1.29 billion in economic impact and nearly 6,000 jobs. Once operational, the arena operations would add $22.6 million annually to the economy. Notably, the operational impact calculation includes only the arena's actual operations and not the impact of patron spending on tickets, food and beverage, lodging, and transportation--which would be substantially higher. This project represents a major opportunity to boost regional growth and create lasting benefits for the community.?
