Advancing our commitment to DEI
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) is, and has always been, critically important. Now, more than ever, it must be a top priority for employers, communities, leaders – and all of us – at this pivotal moment in history.
At Liberty Mutual, we aspire to create an environment where employees can bring their full selves to work and ensure full opportunities and participation for all. This is why I’m proud to announce that we took an important step in reflecting this commitment by sharing with our employees our multi-year DEI plan to increase diversity, equity and inclusion so everyone at Liberty Mutual can grow their careers. This plan includes goals to increase representation of women and people of color at all levels in the U.S. by 2025, as well as ensuring our goals progress over the long term. Taken together, delivering on these goals means that about one-third of all our employees will be people of color and over half will be women.
Representation encompasses employee retention and advancement, and the strengthening of top talent throughout the organization. Our current employee data shows that we can do more to reflect the customers we serve and communities where we live and operate. Establishing and sharing these goals will allow us to more effectively measure our progress while holding ourselves accountable, and we will review our representation goals annually to reflect any changes in the external and internal labor markets over time.
We'll continue to explore other dimensions of diversity, such as veteran status, people who identify as two or more races and the LGBTQ+ community, among others, and consider what goals are appropriate for our global operations.
We know companies with a diverse workforce and inclusive workplace have better outcomes, see stronger business growth and support the development of the local economy in the cities, states and countries where they operate. Liberty Mutual aspires to bring this to life, and we believe taking these actions will help us foster a place where people of all backgrounds want to work and thrive.
I want to thank our employees for their ongoing commitment to helping us achieve our DEI goals — and for continuing to treat one another with empathy, dignity and respect.
