Advancing Oral Health in North Carolina

Serving all North Carolinians is at the heart of the work we do at Delta Dental of North Carolina, with our mission to improve the oral health and the overall well-being of the communities we serve. We fulfill our mission in two ways; by providing the broadest access to more affordable oral care for employer groups and individuals in North Carolina, and through our foundation, by helping the underserved in our communities who do not have access to oral care.

As a not-for-profit dental benefits provider, each year a portion of our residuals goes back into communities across the state to help the underserved access oral care services.

This summer, our team has been visiting Smiles for Kids grantees across the state to thank these amazing non-profit organizations that provide oral health services and education to area youth. We have also attended summer free lunch events with Emerald Pine the Tooth Fairy at The Poe Center for Health Education. The Poe Center hosts these events over the summer to ensure children have access to healthy lunches when school is not in session. At these events, Emerald Pine reads, interacts, and talks about the importance of good oral health habits with the kids while spreading smiles and good cheer. What's more fun than meeting the tooth fairy?

Grants are available on an annual basis through the Delta Dental Foundation for both Smiles for Kids and general grants that support community-based oral health programs and initiatives that promote and improve the oral health of underserved children and adults. Since the program started in 2011, Smiles for Kids has awarded $910,000 in grants and has served more than 500,000 children. Additionally, general grants have touched more than 100,000 lives and are close to reaching 1M dollars awarded. It is always inspiring to visit these organizations to witness the powerful work they’re doing and the impact they are making in their communities.

Delta Dental of North Carolina is a member of the Delta Dental Plans Association, America’s largest and most experienced dental benefits system. Member companies have over 150,000 providers in the network nationwide and provide coverage to more than 90 million Americans.

It is also about expanding affordable access to care, advancing health equity, and ensuring our existing and future members can continue to make informed decisions about their oral health. A new face on the Delta Dental of North Carolina team as we continue to grow

We are excited to welcome Troy Kirk to the team as Vice President of Sales and Client Management. As our team continues to expand throughout the state of North Carolina, we believe Troy’s 33-year background in employee benefits will help us continue to shape and deliver the high-touch approach to dental and vision sales, administration, and service of large and small employers for both fully insured and self-funded lines of business.?

Troy brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our team, as well as a strong network of relationships with brokers, consultants, and employers. He has quickly become engrained with the team and along with their expertise, will leverage the trusted reputation of Delta Dental of North Carolina to expand our reach and impact more communities across the state.
