Advancing Experience with LED

At Bluewater Studio we see continued momentum across many of our projects as our design partners provide progressive ideas that creatively integrate branding elements, untraditional materials, complex graphics, and unique lighting applications within the physical space. A major point of interest here is the innovative and compelling ways designers are using LED lighting applications.

This trend is exemplified by these two projects in which we collaborated with our design partners to translate complex and sometimes abstract ideas into executable solutions, integrating unique LED applications into forward-thinking environments and spaces.

Flyover Chicago – Ticketing and Entry Experience

Located on Chicago’s Navy Pier, this design utilizes multiple types of LED technology. A large transparent LED Screen and hundreds of addressable-programmable LED lights were built into the custom interior to create a memorable sensory experience. The entire team worked together.

Alexandria LaunchLabs

For this biotech start-up hub in Cambridge, MA the design vision included an 80-foot custom-fabricated wall featuring a faceted LED “river” flowing throughout, a nod to the nearby Charles River. Our team built this feature wall using high-end finishes and programmable LED to allow for custom color sequences. The LED lens was fabricated using an applied optical clear film, creating visual depth and varying shades of transparency. We achieved this through multiple prototypes and close collaboration, and the feature wall now successfully serves as a visual theme that enhances the experience throughout the space.

Integrating innovative LED applications not only enhances the visual appeal of a space but also deepens the sensory and emotional connection for those who experience it. We see this level of creative thinking continuing to advance in our projects as many venues, museums, innovation centers, and workplaces are increasing their focus on visitor, fan, and employee engagement.
