Global Energy Transition Update
Largest Vertical Solar Roof: Norway’s Landmark Project: Norway’s national stadium now hosts the world’s largest vertical solar roof, featuring 1,242 panels that contribute substantially to the region’s clean energy goals. This project exemplifies the potential of solar PV in unconventional locations.
Ireland’s Solar Revolution: Staying on the subject of solar, according to the 2024 'Scale of Solar' report from the Irish Solar Energy Association (ISEA), Ireland’s solar power generation capacity has increased by almost 43 percent, with a significant portion of this increase attributable to residential homes and small businesses.
CRU’s Focus on Small-Scale Energy Generation in Ireland: Ireland’s Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU) recently released a decision paper supporting small-scale energy generation connections. This policy aims to accelerate renewable adoption and optimise the grid’s capacity for distributed energy resources (DERs).
Demand Response - A Critical Enabler for the Energy Transition: This month, we were excited to see this masterpiece in #energytransition research released by Markus Fleschutz, PhD. This extensive paper focuses on the future of non-residential demand response and how it is a key enabler in the energy transition. Sincere thanks to Markus for sharing and to Munster Technological University for supporting this important piece of PhD research.
The Data Centre Debate: In this recent article by The Irish Times, Ireland is encouraged to expand data centres to drive renewable energy demand rather than curb their growth. Data centres consume 21% of Ireland's electricity—a figure that is expected to rise. However, data centres offer substantial economic contributions and high-value jobs. With the right technology (an example of which is described below), they can actively support Ireland’s energy transition as grid participants.?
Celebrating Partner Achievements and Collaborations?
Empowering Enel X to transform Data Centres: This month, EpiSensor was featured in a comprehensive Enel X Digital Realty case study, showcasing how grid-interactive UPS systems are advancing the energy transition in Ireland’s data centres - programmes we are supporting with our advanced demand response IoT technology.?
EnergyCAP’s State of Decarbonization 2025 Survey Results are In! EnergyCAP, LLC State of Decarbonization 2025 survey reveals 62% of organisations have set decarbonisation goals, yet only 24% fully track Scope 3 emissions. Energy efficiency and electrification are top of priority lists, while carbon offsets rank low. Major barriers include data access and budget constraints. Most companies rely on manual data collection, with automation still limited. The survey highlights a push towards regulatory-driven sustainability, with expanding ESG teams and the need for real-time data collection to meet evolving climate goals.?
What's Happening at EpiSensor
Continuing to Innovate: This month, we introduced an EpiSensor-designed mPCIe Zigbee card, which is set to feature in our next-generation Gateway alongside cellular and LoRaWAN modules. With additional support for Ethernet, RS-485, and CANbus, this Gateway ensures seamless communication across the entire spectrum of "energy assets."
