The biggest industries can sometimes be the most hidden. Defense is not something actively on most people’s mind’s day to day but something that is all around us constantly. The global defense industry revenue is just shy of $2 trillion dollars per year and is expected to grow 2.8% in 2021, crossing that threshold. The US contributes a significant portion of this, at over $700 billion dollars, with this being the second-largest allocation of the government budget, just behind social security. Three of the largest defense companies in the world Lockheed Martin, Raytheon Technologies and Boeing are based in North America alongside Northrop Grumman and BAE Systems. The US remains a global superpower when it comes to defense development and in 2021 we have seen the following:??

• A ￡135 million contract awarded to BAE Systems for their Typhoon fighter jet programme. This will enable them to investigate improving its internal technology and defense systems.
• A $60 million investment into Hermeus Corporation to create the world’s first reusable hypersonic aircraft by the the U.S. Air Force and capital firms.
• A manned-unmanned test took place for the first time by Boeing and the U.S Navy of it’s MQ-25A Stingray. This demonstration proved that it is viable to conduct commands remotely and adjust to changes in flight.
