Aduro's Employee Resource Groups

Written by Maribeth Thomas, Aduro's Recruiting and Onboarding Coordinator

It can be difficult to connect in these times of remote, hybrid, and in-person work. Meeting people for the first time in a new work environment over Zoom is not ideal. But it's possible to make meaningful and lasting connections if given the opportunity.

At Aduro, we have several different ways to connect each month. When I speak with new employees during onboarding, we talk about these different connection points. I always recommend that they engage in our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) to connect with people throughout the company.

The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Coalition's purpose is to work together to become a truly inclusive company internally and externally. To hold space that is safe and open for all, regardless of perspective. To allow everyone to be heard, even if we don’t all agree. To come from a place of curiosity and compassion, over judgment and fear. To share our own experiences and to listen to others’ experiences, both professionally and personally. To continuously question and address our internal systems, business practices, decisions, and mindsets/biases that stand in the way of inclusivity.

“Every month, we get the opportunity to be part of a great discussion. Learning and listening can shed light on situations I might not otherwise think about in my daily life. When attending the DEI Coalition at Aduro, I become wiser, more inclusive, and leave the meeting feeling a sense of growth and belonging.” – Chris Thomas, Administrative/Data Support and Culture Czar.

Our FiHERstarters community unifies fellow Firestarters in a safe space who share a passion for learning, offering mentorship, sharing stories, building community, and fostering lasting connections which enhance and support feminine energy and success in the workplace – now and into the future.

“This group always gives me a bigger picture of what others in the organization are struggling with, what is inspiring them, and how we can support one another.” – Janssen Judge, Senior Editor.

“This group is empowering and inspiring. Inevitably, I am struggling with something when we meet, and by the end of the meeting, I feel lifted up by this community of strong, open, and supportive women. I am constantly in awe and gratitude at being part of this group of FiHERstarters!” – Heather King, Connect Care Health Director.

“I love our FiHERstarter community. This group inspires me to be a better leader while also giving me the grace to show up imperfectly. It’s a space to have honest conversations, find support and hold each other accountable to our possibility.” – Renee Petrie, Chief Product Officer.

There are three different groups at Aduro: Parents of Newborn to Toddlers, Parents of Elementary-Aged Children, and Parents of Middle to High School-Aged Children.

Our Human Performance Coaches facilitate each group where we talk about our triumphs and struggles as parents. We support one another and get ideas/tips from co-workers/parents who make their way through similar parenting stages.

“Engaging in the Parent Support Group has been a great way for me to connect with my peers more personally. Having a baby at the beginning of Covid left me feeling quite isolated, which has opened up possibilities of connecting with other parents on another level. I look forward to hearing about my peers' experiences with their children and sharing my own as well as building a community of support.” – Amber Blackburn, Senior Manager – Human Performance Coaching.

"Meeting with fellow team members with similar-aged children is wonderful.?We discuss issues we are experiencing unique to this age group like teen drivers and training during a meeting.?Several of us were concerned with teaching our teenagers on city streets so someone recommended going to a shopping mall on a Saturday or Sunday morning.?There are miles of driving opportunities with very little traffic during this time.?What a great idea, and just one example of the support we all receive.” – Ken Nicholson, Business Operations Project Manager

Our Employee Resource Groups are driven to build a more inclusive work environment. The learnings, relationships, and community that comes from it are invaluable.
