Adult Social Care Training and Development Fund - Key Changes

On the 8th April 2024, the government launched the new Adult Social Care Training and Development Fund, administered by the NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) on behalf of DHSC.
This is the replacement for Workforce Development Fund (WDF) which is administered by Skills for Care .
Please note that it will only be possible to claim WDF for learning which is already in progress and started on or before 31st March 2024. This means that qualifications and apprenticeships which started on 1st April 2024 or afterwards will not be eligible for funding through the WDF.
New Adult Social Care Training and Development Fund
Through the new fund, eligible adult social care employers can claim varying levels of reimbursement for spend on upskilling the adult social care workforce in England.
Despite detailing that £50 million is available to support uptake of the newly developed Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate there is no detail on the full amount of funding backing the training and development fund. It also unclear what funding allocations will be made towards revalidation training and qualification and care skills training beyond the Level 2 Care Certificate.

The department outlines that the guidance has been published ahead of the launch of a digital online claims service in 'summer 2024' with the aim of enabling the adult social care workforce and ASC employers to be able to start to plan their training and development for the financial year 2024 to 2025.
