Adoption by Choice Or Chance?

Adoption by Choice Or Chance?

She stood from where she was sitting in their living room. Hugging her husband. ‘Thank you, thank you so much my husband,’ she utters in disbelief as she wipes tears on her cheeks. “I didn’t know you’d accept this,” she adds.

What could she have thought? That the husband’s heart is made of stone? Probably, but that wasn’t the case it turned out.

Well, curious now about what she thanked for right?

It was as she was leaving the church premises after a beautiful Christmas mass. The two women few steps from her were chatting. “The baby was left at a guest house. After noticing the baby crying for nearly two hours the attendants went to knock on the door. They said the woman who seemed young in appearance had booked the room. She said she was going to buy some diapers. She never got back. That’s when the guest house reported to the police and I was summoned.” She hears one of the ladies narrating the story.

Keen and interested in the whereabouts of the baby, she takes big steps to catch up with the two when she notices to be familiar with the lady who was narrating the story.

“What’s this am hearing?” she asks. “A less than a month baby boy has been abandoned at a guest house.” She’s told.

Walking home she thinks who dares abandon a baby..and its Christmas..who does that?

She narrates the incident to her husband and leaves it there.

Walking from the market, she bumps into the lady who is narrating the story. “Mama...am glad I’ve seen you. You know when we met at church after we left, I thought how about you help us raise that child? You know in our area we don’t have a facility to keep such children. And we are struggling to get a car fuel to take her to the neighbouring Region. Can you please raise him?” she asked her.

“Mmmh...I will have to discuss this with my husband. I will let you know.” She responds.

The family of 6 mom and dad happily added the new member to the family. Yes, just like that. Forms were filled and stamped..the baby was officially adopted.

“I cuddle and nurse him. He falls asleep in my arms. My wife even wonders how good of an old dad I’ve become.” He jokingly says smiling. “My life has actually changed. I now look forward to getting home considering my other children are in boarding schools. I check on the baby every day during my lunch hour to be sure he’s well-fed and taken care of. We’ve hired a nanny to care for him. All my family members are aware that I have another son.” The proud dad in his early 50s says with excitement and assurance knowing he found a new purpose in raising the boy. By Choice and Chance of course ?? ?
