Adopt A Fighter Pilot Mindset To Your Business.

Adopt A Fighter Pilot Mindset To Your Business.

From looking at the title, you might have a few ideas on what that actually means in the context of entrepreneurship. Dealing with immense amounts of pressure, combining a vast amount of skills towards an optimistic goal or objective consistently or being an excellent communicator with your teams to maintain a level of performance and standards. Those are all valid answers, but our latest guest on the ScaleX Insider dives into that and so much more in a unrivalled level of detail.

Host @Brendan McGurgan spoke to former fighter pilot turned respected entrepreneur and keynote speaker @Christian Boucousis aka "Boo" to unravel what it is about a fighter pilot mindset that synergises so well with entrepreneurship, the variety of good vs evil in business and how we can look at our business as a jet and pilot it to soar higher in the sky than we thought capable.

3 Timeless Takeaways:

  1. Persistence is everything. A never give up mindset, dog with a bone attitude when thinking about the start gave me the ability to learn. If you're doing something you believe in, but you haven't done it before, there's a massive learning experience.
  2. Persistence needs a destination. Something you believe in. You can't be an entrepreneur to make money. Some people do which I believe makes big compromises and the universe addresses it later. When it comes to learning, I was taught the "Accelerating Learning Curve" which is the model that helps fighter pilot's learn quicker and you can hack this and be a fighter pilot or you get washed out. This is the iterative part of mindset so if you have a mission & intension, you only know what you know today so you're going to have a go and no ones going to be perfect and we fall short of the mark and part of being a fighter pilot is to form new habits & behaviours.
  3. How we create new habits & behaviours. We have to ask ourselves at the end of us having a go, our debrief to create the opportunity for the cognitive part of our brain to kick in. What was the mission objective? What was the result? When we're crystal clear on what we set out to achieve, If we don't achieve that or even overperform, there's a performance gap to investigate. Overperforming should prompt us to look at what we did and how to do more of that and underachieving allows us to remove the bottlenecks. If you can show me a business had set out a 12-month business strategy and nailed their numbers to the decimal point every year, I'd call you a liar.

2 Inspirational Quotes:

  1. "No one wants to be hustled: they want to be valued. The best way to influence another human being is to ask them about themselves and what makes their life easier."
  2. If you believe in something and you want to fulfil your belief and your life purpose? That's the thing you're in a relationship with.
