ADONIS - A Free Finite Element Program for Slope Stability Analysis
The Shear Strength Reduction (SSR) technique of Finite Element (FE) analysis is implemented into ADONIS (v1.8) to automatically perform a finite element analysis, and compute the “factor of safety” of the model.
The basic concept of the Shear Strength Reduction (SSR) method is quite simple.
1. The strength parameters of a slope are reduced by strength reduction factor (SRF), and the finite element stress analysis is computed.
2. This process is repeated for different values of SRF, until the model becomes unstable (the analysis results do not converge).
3. This determines the critical strength reduction factor (critical SRF), or safety factor, of the slope.
Note: In the current version of ADONIS (i.e. 1.8) the SSR calculation is only available for Mohr-Coulomb constitutive model.
