Administrative Hearings 101

I enjoyed presenting this continuing legal education course to fellow bar members. In addition to discussing related laws and policies that affect administrative proceedings, I also shared some examples from my experience working on contested cases and land use approvals over the past 14 years.

If I left one impression for project proponents, I hope it was to think beyond what is required. Land use permits and approvals are pieces of the larger development process that must include and be consistent with community outreach, working with key decision-makers, and leaving a positive legacy for those who will directly and indirectly benefit from the project. This approach reduces legal risk and uncertainty that can ultimately impact the viability of a project.
