Adidas' Olympic size f**k up

Have a laugh at their ineptitude and ensure you don't do the same ...

The Paris Olympics finished on the 11th August.

Just over two weeks later the Paralympics started.

As the "Official Supermarket" - whatever that means - Aldi knew what to do. Here's the bottom of the front cover of their weekly magazine.

This is Aldi, getting it right

However, despite being the "Official Sportswear Provider" for Team GB, Adidas clearly had a moment and sent me this:

This is Adidas getting it badly wrong

"The Summer of Sports has come to an end"

"We couldn't be prouder of our athletes and all those who made our hearts beat faster this summer."

It's as though the Paralympics simply didn't exist. Abysmal!

What makes it all the more inexcusable is Adidas is the Official Sportswear Provider for ParalympicsGB and the German Paralympic squads.

So they KNEW the Summer of Sports hadn't come to an end ...

… but still managed to cock it up like only a big company and their big agency can.

Of course Adidas isn't alone. A recent favourite of mine was not one but three companies running TV ads using Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark's track "Enola Gay".

As the name may give away to you, it's an anti-war song about the atomic bombing of Hiroshima by the aircraft "Enola Gay" on 6th August 1945.

When you know, it's clearly not suitable for promoting health insurance, food & recipe kits, or a department store.

My guess is the agencies and their clients are all too young to know what this "jolly synth tune" is actually about. And - clearly - nobody bothered to listen to the words.

If you need copy without cock-ups, copy that persuades and sells no matter what you sell. Whether it's a product or service …

… cheap or fiendishly expensive … simple or complicated …

… we should talk.

Not sure?

Here's what three people we've worked with have to say about us:

"We've been working with Gerald and Alex for the last 2 years.

"They write weekly emails for us to send to our client and prospect list.

"The emails are very cleverly written, in a style making them highly readable. And they all come with brilliant subject lines achieving great open rates.

"If you are struggling with your email campaigns just not getting through, I would certainly recommend you get in touch with Gerald sooner rather than later."

- Jeff Frankling, CEO, DOR-2-DOR, Harpenden, England

"I’ve had the pleasure of working with Gerald recently and he impressed across our business immediately.

"Gerald’s ability to understand our target audience and create compelling messages that resonated with them was truly impressive. From the moment we engaged him we knew we were in capable hands. Gerald took the time to thoroughly research our product and industry, gaining a deep understanding of our unique selling points and value proposition.

"Gerald’s writing style is both captivating and persuasive – tried and tested direct response copy that sells. He expertly weaves together the perfect combination of storytelling, emotion, and effective calls to action, resulting in a significant increase in leads and sales. The copy had an immediate impact on our marketing campaigns.

"I am confident that Gerald will exceed expectations in any business and would thoroughly recommend him."

- David Centeno, Senior Offline Marketing Manager, Pure Cremation Ltd, Andover, England

"Gerald and the team at Drayton Bird Associates have been unbelievable. Every time they send me an email, I'm happy to get it. Thank goodness they kept in touch, they re-wrote our landing page and email sequence and increased the result massively. Their skill set far surpasses anything I've seen before. Brilliant to work with you guys."

- James Burke, Action Coach, Manchester, England

Not only do they say nice things, take a look at the different things they sell: leaflet distribution, direct cremation and business coaching.

As you can see, it really doesn't matter what you sell. And if we can sell for Jeff, David and James, I'm sure we can for you.

Finding out more is FREE and you're not obliged to do anything else.

So get in touch now - [email protected] - while this is fresh in your mind.
