It's Neurodiversity awareness week this week and I am excited to share with you how my own ADHD and for many of my clients, can impact decision paralysis and making progress towards your goals.
Understanding this for myself after realising I have ADHD 2 years ago has been a total game changer and had a huge impact on me. I have a bazillion ideas but can very easily lose track of ideas and take on way too much (thinking I'm superwoman, which to be honest I am when I'm in hyperfocus and productive!)
Getting distracted easily (oo look, squirel/shiny thing over there) can really impact how much I can get done and I can easily get so super absorbed into things that I forget to do the basic things for my wellbeing like eating, drinking enough water or getting fresh air!
For years I thought I was just "different" but I now know that my brain is wired differently and understanding this, for me, and for many of my clients, is so helpful and allows change to be made in terms of communicating my needs, feeling less shame around finding some things harder than others and being able to show myself more compassion.
Now that I'm not conscious of what I need from myself and others in terms of support, I have been sharing some of my key learnings and best practices and strategies with you this month in the ADHD series of the podcast.
Please remember that Neurodiversity shows up so differently for different people so there is no one-size-fits-all approach or strategy that will work for every neurodivergent human being, but I do hope that in sharing some of what I have learned, it helps at least one person to feel more seen and understood.
You can listen to the latest episode of the Supercharge Your Business podcast here where I talk all about ADHD, Decision Paralysis and Keeping up the Momentum.
The delve into the importance of individual differences, shining an important light on the significance of overwhelm, perfectionism and giving yourself easy wins (and more dopamine), so you can enhance your wellbeing and fulfilment to create more personal and professional growth.
The Impact of Decision Paralysis on Business
As business owners, freelancers or consultants there are so many hats to wear and plates to spin in your business to ensure you are making sales, delivering great client results and also working on your business development. When you have so many roles to fill, whilst this can be exciting and feel novel to your ADHD brain as there is a lot of variety and change, it can be really difficult to remember everything on your to-do list and prioritise tasks in the right order.

Being Strategic with your Decision Making
When you're following the dopamine, it can mean you show up every day and just do what "feels good". There are lots of reasons this isn't the best approach when it comes to business growth, but for many of my clients this looks like have lots of ideas but never seeing any of them through (and therefore, not making the sales, generating enough profit and working too many hours) When you have a busy mind, learning how to pay attention to what is most important, which yes will mean saying no sometimes even to the things you do want to do, is really important.
The Consequences of Overthinking
If you were to add up the amount of time you spend overthinking every decision, or procrastinating. How much would that be? 30-60 minutes a day? Probably more?
If it was an hour a day, over the course of a year thats 15,600 minutes - a whopping 260 hours!!!
If you charge £50 an hour for your services, that's £13,000 a year that you're missing out on because you're wasting time overthinking and delaying, not to mention the mental exhaustion that comes from carrying the mental load.
The Role of Perfectionism in Decision Paralysis
Perfectionism is one of the biggest killers of momentum. I see this with clients all the time before they start working with me. They have the most incredible ideas and then take so long to get them out into the world because they're perfecting every detail first, that someone else got there first.
I support you to learn how to take messy action so you can reach your business and personal goals much quicker, easier and more effectively so you can take advantage of the opportunities that are right in front of you and feel more energised by your business and in your life.
Episode 64 of the podacst which you can listen to here is an important reminder of the need for tailored approaches to maximise your ability to consistently grow and push yourself outside of your comfort zone without burning out, which coaching can help you to unpick, understand and create your own pathway for.
