Dear Subscribers/Readers,

Greetings and welcome to the inaugural edition of EggCellent Feeds Weekly – your go-to source for animal nutrition insights?

In this first issue, we’re unraveling the essential secrets of amino acids and their indispensable functions in ensuring the well-being of our feathered friends.

?? Join us on a journey to explore the critical roles that essential amino acids play in the growth, health, and overall vitality of poultry

Chicken body contains about 20% amino acid on as a such basis and about 75% on a dry matter basis. Amino acids are the constituents of proteins. Chicken needs amino acids but not proteins as such.

Amino acids are the main component of protein and important nutrients in poultry nutrition. It is responsible for bird growth, and it is a major factor for performance.

Amino acids are divided into two types: essential and non-essential.

?? I've posted an infographic on my home page that explains some of the main functions of essential amino acids for poultry .

Below is a detailed explanation of these functions:

  • Methionine: is required for buildup of the immune system and improvement of live performance the main function is for muscle mass, feather development and egg production.
  • Lysine: The main role of lysine is to participate in protein. Lysine is required for synthesis of egg and body protein.
  • Threonine: it has a vital role in improving growth, intestinal morphology, Immune system function and it has an antioxidant ability.
  • Tryptophane: required for growth performance also works as insulin regulator, and reduces the stress on the birds.
  • Valine: valine is necessary to promote muscle growth and tissue repair as it is one of the branched-chain?amino acids.
  • Arginine: is known to alleviate oxidative stress and attenuate intestinal mucosa disruption.
  • Leucine: one of the branched-chain?amino acids essential for protein synthesis through the mTOR pathway and immune function.
  • Cysteine: is a semi-essential amino acid belonging to the SAAs it plays essential role in growth and feather development.
  • Isoleucine:? another branched-chain?amino acid essential in fatty acids metabolism, glucose transportation and ?? protein metabolism.
  • Histidine: the main role in chicken is to increase the concentration of carnosine in breast muscle.
  • Phenylalanine: it is needed for synthesis of proteins, catecholamines and melanin.

?

In conclusion, ?? essential amino acids are very important for many metabolic processes within the chicken body. They are necessary to produce other non-essential amino acids as well.
