AddUp – Limit? What is limit?
Do you remember our last challenge, regarding the limit of parts without support? You can read it again here: https://bit.ly/2RRmz9k
In April, we produced some parts, like holes, without support. We were able to produce some holes with a diameter of 40 mm …
But, can you imagine that we stop here our experimentation … Can you imagine that I’m not requested new parts, bigger and bigger? Clearly no!
I just receive last week the result – Some of my colleagues were despite … because they perfectly know what I will request now … continue to increase the diameter of this hole ??
On this production, always in Maraging, 4 different diameters … starting from 40 mm … until …. until …. 70 mm. All without support (40 – 50 – 60 – 70 mm)
Do you imagine that we produce this parts in the appropriate orientation on the plate? with some security and somethings like that?
Definitively no! No interest! For this production, we suppress intentionally the both direction deposit of powder, to be sure to take into consideration the risk associated to the roller. For 4 was produce with 4 different orientation on the plate – Here the picture of the production.
4 parts, 4 directions – The perfect stress test, isn’t it ?
And now ... the result … Just have a look.
I’m not sure that it’s necessary to explain… maybe just a “Waooouu” is enough !
Regarding angle we do the same job with the same approach :
One sample parts in 4 directions, with 4 different angles, 20° - 17° - 14 ° and … 11°.
And one more time ... the associated parts …
Curently, we you speak about additive manufacturing and you search to compare different mAM technology, some of others technology put forward the handicap of LBM technology associated to the “necessary” support – associated powder consumption, cost to remove it etc…
And now ? how do you imagine the future with LBM ?
To be continued ... ;-)
