Addressing Two of The Biggest Teeth Whitening Challenges Faced by Dentists

As a dentist, you know that teeth whitening has become a popular cosmetic procedure in recent years. However, with popularity come challenges. Today, we will explore two of the biggest teeth whitening challenges dentists face and provide solutions to overcome them.

Challenge 1: Sensitive Teeth

Teeth sensitivity is a frequent issue encountered during teeth whitening procedures. The whitening gel utilised in the treatment may cause discomfort for certain patients, resulting in a negative experience. This can lead to patients not finishing the treatment plan, resulting in suboptimal results and not returning for top-up treatments, resulting in additional revenue loss.

Solution: Pre-Whitening Treatment

To address this challenge, we recommend offering a pre-whitening treatment to your patients. This treatment involves applying a desensitizing gel or paste like Boutique Biomin to the patient's teeth before the whitening procedure. Ideally, this should continue during the whitening days, advising the patient not to rinse after application. This helps to reduce tooth sensitivity and make the whitening process more comfortable for the patient. By offering this pre-treatment, you can help ensure a positive patient experience and encourage them to be compliant and complete your treatment plan.

Challenge 2: Inconsistent Results

Another common challenge faced by dentists during teeth whitening is achieving consistent results. Patients may have different shades of teeth, making it difficult to predict the exact outcome of the procedure. This can lead to dissatisfaction among patients who don't achieve the results they were hoping for.

Solution: Customised Treatment Plans

To overcome this challenge, it's important to remind patients that whilst most all-natural teeth can whiten, some take longer than others to obtain the desired results, and it is important to create customised treatment plans for each patient. This involves assessing the patient's teeth and creating a personalised plan that considers their specific needs and goals. You can ensure more consistent and predictable results by tailoring the treatment to each patient.

This is a BIG reason dental professionals MUST be the only people allowed to whiten teeth, and why they add GREAT VALUE for the patient.
