Addressing the Threat of Cyanide Poisoning - Subtle Rant

All of last week and including today, I was and am truly frustrated with everything concerning cyanide in Suriname.?

Lets start with the way it is presented in the media. We only get fragmented information and very little output from the government itself. Some ministries and departments acknowledge the issue, while others downplay it completely. It makes me very suspicious about the government’s involvement in this. The negativity in the air is overwhelming, and here's what I see:

We're lacking respect for Surinamese society.?

We deserve better than this! The situation isn't being handled properly. We need action, not just empty words. It's disheartening to witness this lack of action. We can't afford to ignore this any longer.?

Why??That's the question that keeps nagging at me.

Why are we so afraid to admit that a catastrophe has taken place??

Cyanide isn't something that can be easily cleaned up! Cyanide is literal poison, the only question here is how fast or slow will those exposed die of it?

Why do we hesitate to confront those responsible??

Is it all about votes and financial gain? Remember, the very people you're trying to silence are the ones who put you in power. Treat them fairly, and they'll support you.

Why do we try to suppress the truth and dismiss it as "fake news"??

Let's not forget that the internet reaches nearly everywhere, and even a 10-year-old can capture and share the horrors that are already circulating.

Why are we scared to confront "the foreigners"??

Because of diplomatic treaties? Do we forget that there are more treaties that protect us and the nature we boast to be number 1 at? Or do we fear foreigners? I'm talking about ill-intending foreigners, that if we allow them to keep messing with our country like this, we will be left with scorched earth, acid ridden and a forsaken piece of land we will try to sell as 'Bromtyi dyari, Suriname".

Remember, it's our duty to protect everything within the boundaries of the Corantyne River, the vast Atlantic Ocean, and the mountains between Brazil and the majestic Marowijne River. Let's show our love for this country, or at the very least, let's start acting like we do. Together, we can make a difference.

You know what? I could spend all day complaining without taking any action. But the truth is, I'm just an ordinary person with no power, wealth, or fancy degrees. I'm someone who loves to write and talk, sharing ideas through conversations and words. Recently, I had a thought that struck me:

We have incredible volunteers and dedicated foundations focused on climate change and conservation, and a wealth of brilliant academics and technocrats. Imagine if all of them came together, forming an action group to address the issue at hand. They could combine their knowledge, financial resources, and connections with foreign powers in the conservation field. Together, they could map out the extent of the poisoning, take proactive steps to curb and minimize the catastrophe.

Isn't that a beautiful vision? I know it's just a thought, a small spark of inspiration. But my hope is that it ignites a fire within all of you, sparking action. Please, don't let diplomatic constraints, academic hurdles, or financial limitations discourage you.

If a blind man can win music awards and billions can be invested in crypto, then why can't we pool our resources and at least make an attempt to tackle this problem together?

Take a moment to reflect and then take action. Let your passion shine brightly as you become advocates for our beloved country, Suriname, with its pristine 93% forest cover.

Lastly, I want to express my gratitude for taking the time to read this little "rant" of mine. All I wanted was to speak from the depths of my love for my country, and it would bring me even more joy if you shared these thoughts with your friends and peers. Especially with those that are able to do something!?
