Addressing the Issue of Teacher Retention: Learn More about TFA NC’s RISE Fellowship

Teach For America?North Carolina (TFA NC) works in partnership with schools and communities to address educational inequity. One of the primary ways we do this is by recruiting outstanding and diverse leaders early in their careers and asking them to make a commitment that begins with two years of teaching in a public school, partnering with children and families most impacted by educational inequity. As an organization, our 2030 goal is focused on partnering with the communities we serve to double the number of children who will reach key educational milestones indicating they are on a path to economic mobility and a future filled with possibility.?

Teach For America North Carolina believes that it is important to retain high-quality teachers in the classroom. In an effort to retain such talent, Teach For America North Carolina’s Reinvesting in Student Excellence (RISE) Fellowship was established in 2022.?

The Teach For America North Carolina’s RISE Fellowship is a commitment between Teach For America, participating fellows, and the school leaders where they serve to work together toward expanded outcomes for students and teachers in our communities. Teach For America North Carolina’s Executive Director, Dr. Monique Perry-Graves states, “We believe that ensuring high-quality educators remain in the classroom is crucial to achieving our goal of providing an excellent education for all students. Our RISE Fellowship works to do just that, retaining and developing top-notch educators with professional development opportunities, one-on-one mentorship, and continued classroom support.”

In the 2023-2024 school year, Teach For America North Carolina had 22 RISE fellows who taught 13 subjects at 10 school districts and charter networks.? Our fellows impacted over 2,275 students in North Carolina.??

This school year, Teach For America North Carolina has 38 RISE Fellows continuing? the organization’s legacy of excellence in classrooms. As we gear up to celebrate 35 years of impact in the state, the TFA NC RISE Fellowship supports the organization’s pursuit to illuminate the path to “One Day” for all students.?
