The production of electronic items is increasing at an exponential rate and so is the problem of electronic waste. In the 21st Century, the world is generating far too much electronic trash than that needs to be disposed of properly. The problem is rapidly advancing technology and the declining life cycle of these electronic devices. Once a new gadget is up on an online store or a fancy mall, we simply feel like getting rid of our current devices and lay our hands on the new one before anyone else! In this way, many gadgets are simply discarded when a newer, more sophisticated version is released. Some of us even toss away our device if the screen is shattered, the battery dies or if there are some technical glitches. Due to the rapid increase in discarded devices, the volume of e-waste being transferred to landfills is multiplying, and with this comes a ticking time bomb in the form of hazardous chemicals that contaminate the environment we live in.?
With the amount of e-waste being generated on a daily basis because of easy internet access and increase in the number of cellphone users in the world, we cannot expect a sudden drop in the statistics. So, the question arises, how can we bring about an end to this rising e-waste problem? The first and foremost need of the hour is to keep discarded electronics out of the general trash bins and eventually landfills. We all need to stop hoarding damaged/broken gadgets in our closets and get rid of them in an ethical manner. We need to inculcate the habit of taking our discarded electronics to a certified recycling facility. Recycling used electronics with Enviroserve ensures that nothing of value, within any device, gets wasted. All confidential data and documents are securely wiped through strict data erasure procedures. Precious metals are derived from recycling electronics which can be used to make new products.?
Another important solution is to raise awareness about the significance of e-waste recycling. Spreading the word on social media about benefits of recycling electronic items and the harmful effects of its unethical disposal can be a good start. Children should be taught, from grassroot levels, about the importance of recycling, as they are the future generations. We also?need to stay updated with the new e-waste laws and regulations laid out by the government and the authorities.
Besides preserving our natural resources and retaining valuable metals, recycling e-waste with a certified, professional recycler eliminates data security threats posed when these unwanted devices are thrown away. Enviroserve, a Dubai Municipality and Ministry of Environment certified recycling organization, has earned a stellar reputation across the Emirates and the Middle- East for being the trusted experts in recycling e-waste. The discarded electronic items are brought in to be recycled securely following strict data wiping guidelines. From residential communities to corporates and commercial organizations, Enviroserve serves all recycling requirements at its world’s largest e-waste recycling facility, located in Dubai Industrial City.

3 年This is an important environmental initiative. There is a similar challenge with food waste in The UAE, and the need to reduce it and eliminate landfill where food waste generates large amounts of methane.
