The Vatican is working to address global health inequalities through the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development and The International Confederation of Health Care Institutions (C.I.I.S.A.C.). Nine of us from Deloitte participated in the 32nd International Conference on the theme of “Addressing Global Health Inequalities”. In opening the conference, the Dicastery drew the attention of "all those who have responsibilities in the health care sector to the theme of justice and equality in health care." Over 50 individuals presented and facilitated discussions amongst approximately 400 participants from across the globe on topics of advancing global health and reducing disparities in access to health care. In his welcome to conference participants, Pope Francis writes that the New Charter for Health Care workers states, "the fundamental right to the preservation of health pertains to the value of justice, whereby there are no distinctions between peoples and ethnic groups…”
This linkage of justice and health is profound, fundamental and essential to an inclusive global society.
I am grateful for the work and leadership of His Eminence Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson, Prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development (the Holy See) and Dr. Anthony Tersigni, President and Chief Executive Officer of Ascension Health and President of C.I.I.S.A.C. I am also grateful for the opportunity for Deloitte to participate in the mission to extend better health care to all.
