Addressing errors & and mistakes about getting opportunities through LinkedIn Locals

I was just as confused as you when I came to know about LinkedIn and like everyone else I was curious because I was doing everything right.

With me was a banging resume, sending cold DM but zilch and crickets for everybody I contacted and I could not crack the code because I was looking for a trick or magic wand to make my wishes come true.

But I tell you more about the solutions to help you; let us address some of the reasons why your account is being restricted on LinkedIn.

  1. Using a third-party scrapping tool: This is for our salespeople a.k.a marketers who are looking for email leads or contact information on people's LinkedIn. I just want to let you know that LinkedIn discourages 3rd party apps from generating leads. You or your team can subscribe to LinkedIn Sales Navigator at a fee. Don't lose your account over this.
  2. 2FA: Also known as two-factor authentication, ensure it is activated and avoid logging in and logging out. [too frequency]. When you behave like this; the system may recognize you as a bot and will quickly lock your account. Please leave your account signed in.
  3. Using VPN: Need we say more? These virtual private networks reroute your IP addresses as well, there changing your actual location. Now if you are part of the people genuinely using this to change locations to get side gigs; you may be doing your account more bad than good.
  4. Engagement pods: We call them support groups. One hand holding another. For a start engagement groups could function well but the algorithm cannot be deceived. If you are engineering your engagement all the time. You may soon land in a witches' nest and boom you go running all over to recover your account. Good content will get engagement, It takes time sometimes.
  5. Lying about your experience and location: Mr. Lair Lair pants on fire. You fill up your bio and data with inaccurate information and change your locations to places you do not reside in. Keep gaming the system!

There are a couple of things that may hurt your account aside from your village people picking on your account. But let us talk about how LinkedIn Local helps you brush through all those hacks, tips, and 101 tricks.

  1. It puts a face to the name: Over 60% of the people I engage with on LinkedIn regularly are people whom I have met physically. For instance, I met Olayinka T. Hannah one of our speakers at this year's LinkedIn Local Bootcon at our favorite LinkedIn couple's wedding in Lagos. It is always easier for me and effortless to relate to her whenever she posts.
  2. Connect physically: Despite "Zoom" being one of the digital online meeting platforms encouraging ease of remote working. It has some of its workforce back physically to the office. People get to see you in your real elements where you can pitch your services to them. At our last LinkedIn Local event, one of the attendees connected with another attendee who needed his graphic services, and since then that relationship has blossomed.
  3. Access: I paid N20,000 to attend the LinkedIn Offline Hangout sometime ago. Why you may ask? I did this because of access. I wanted to connect with one of the speakers because I knew they could help me reach one of my goals. And yes I got the person's contact and the rest is history. Will N5000 be the reason why don't want access?
  4. Get inspired to follow the process: Engagement pods are nice to have but in the long run; you will fizzle out and what kept you in the beginning won't keep you forever. At LickedIn Local you get inspired to keep moving and build consistently.
