Addressing Disparity in the Five Billion Naira Palliative Fund Allocation

Addressing Disparity in the Five Billion Naira Palliative Fund Allocation

Dear Mr. President,

I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. I write to bring to your attention the pressing matter of the unequal distribution of the Five Billion Naira Palliative Fund amongst the states in Nigeria, particularly highlighting the significant population difference between states such as Kano and some states in the south.

Firstly, I would like to commend your administration for the swift action taken in establishing the Palliative Fund to alleviate the economic strains inflicted by the recent global crisis on the populace. This initiative demonstrates your commitment to ensuring the well-being and welfare of all Nigerians during these challenging times.

However, it is crucial to recognize the great disparity in population size between various states in our dear country. States like Kano, for instance, have a population that is more than five times the size of some states in the south. Consequently, by allocating an equal amount of funds to each state, it becomes evident that these resources may not be sufficient to meet the needs of the people in more densely populated regions.

The purpose of the Palliative Fund is to mitigate the financial distress faced by individuals and families affected by the pandemic. It is intended to provide relief, hope, and sustenance in the face of adversity. However, by allocating funds on an equal basis without considering the varying population sizes, we risk the funds being insufficient to alleviate the intense hardships of densely populated regions, such as Kano.

While appreciating that every state is in need of support during this challenging period, it is crucial to recognize that a 'one-size-fits-all' approach may not be the most effective solution. Allocating funds in proportion to a state's population should be seriously considered, as it will ensure that the relief reaches those who truly need it.

To maximize the impact of the Palliative Fund and ensure its equitable distribution, I humbly request that you kindly investigate the possibility of adjusting the allocation proportionally, considering each state's population. This adjustment will help to ensure that states like Kano, which bear the burden of an enormous population, are adequately supported and that the funds effectively quench the thirst for assistance in these regions.

I trust in your visionary leadership and commitment to the well-being of all Nigerians. By addressing the inequality in the distribution of the Palliative Fund, we can truly make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it the most.

Thank you for your attention to this matter, Mr. President. May your decision-making be guided by wisdom and compassion.

Yours faithfully,

Aminu Bala Aliyu
