As researchers and professionals committed to advancing global well-being, we often emphasize growth and innovation. However, there's a critical challenge that threatens to undermine our collective progress: the climate crisis.
Like in many regions, the climate crisis has become a significant barrier in Africa, stalling economic advancements. African nations, particularly, are losing up to 5% of their GDP due to climate impacts. While Africa faces severe consequences, no country is spared—the entire global economy bears the weight of this issue.
But what does this mean for us as a global research community? How can our collective expertise and professional networks contribute to addressing this urgent challenge?
Simon Stiell's words remind us, “We are all in this crisis together.” This isn’t just a policy issue; it demands our attention in research, collaboration, and innovation. With #COP29 approaching in Baku, we must rethink how scientific research, government policy, and industry can come together to make the climate crisis a central focus of our work.
