ADDITION BY SUBTRACTION IN THE EDUCATION SYSTEM
Sometimes removing old and outdated concepts from the syllabus can drastically improve the quality of students, since they're learning about real world systems that they see work in front of their eyes everyday.
Teaching a student about the origins is essential, but confining him only to that is criminal. We are all taught about the government and its functionality in social sciences, but never once were we taught how we should pay our taxes to the government. People might argue that the foundational concepts were all covered, yes they were but what can one do with only cement and bricks if he doesn't have a blueprint that contains the order of steps to be taken. It would be like a chef who knows the ingredients, but doesn't know the order in which to mix them.
This is just once such example where knowledge doesn't translate into action in our fast paced constantly updating world.
To begin with, we can subtract that which is deemed non essential, and focus on essential for ones survival.
When I mentioned survival, all of your brains would've immediately pictured a man fighting some wild animal with a spear and a club. That's not what I meant.
What you just saw was survival for our forefathers, not for us, the context of the world has changed. Survival in our context would be having a stable source of income to provide for ourselves and our close ones.?
Thus the best way to change is by subtracting.
