In Addition To ATSs, 2 More Things Block Your Resume

There are more things other than ATSs that block you from getting job interviews.

When you're not getting interviews even though you're qualified, it's a natural reaction to think you're being blocked by ATSs. But that's only part of the problem ...

You face at least two other hurdles, both of which can also block you from getting job interviews.:

• HR Visual Review: When you get through the ATS, your resume goes through a review by recruiters or HR reps, to see if you're qualified, or just stuffing your resume with keywords. 66% of employers then say they check social media profiles prior to granting interviews - looking for social proof that you're telling the truth on your resume. In addition, most positions only schedule a limited number of interview spots - If these are all filled before your resume gets visually reviewed, you're blocked from getting that interview.
• Hiring Manager Review: Once HR recommends a list of candidates to the hiring manager, then the hiring manger does a quick review, averaging 15 seconds/resume. Hiring managers are looking for more than just candidates who meet qualifications - they're looking for the best candidates. Few, if any, average candidates are given an interview.

Some larger companies have even more levels of review including skills or psychological tests prior to deciding which candidates to interview.

This is why, on average, 85% of the candidates that get through ATSs, get screened out by humans. In other words, only 15% of the candidates who get through ATSs actually get interviews.
