Adding your contact info to your phone's lock screen

Some time ago, I found a cellphone on the sidewalk near a GO station in Mississauga. The phone was locked of course, so there was no way for me to find out who the owner was, so all I could do was drop it off at the ticket counter.

I recently purchased an iPhone. One of my first tasks was to figure out how to ensure that in the event I should ever misplace my phone, the good samaritan who finds it would be able to contact me.

There are a few apps available that allow you to add your contact info to your phone's lock screen, but I found an easy way to create a screen grab of your contact info and then set that image as your lock screen wallpaper.

1. Open a text editor on your phone (I used Notes).
2. Type your contact info - leave space at the top to accommodate the time display on your phone's lock screen.
3. When finished, take a screenshot of the information (Press the Home and Lock buttons on an older iPhone, side button and the volume up button on the iPhone 12 and 13, or the power and volume down buttons on your Android phone, at the same time).
4. Open the Settings menu. Scroll down to the Wallpaper option. Tap on "Choose a New Wallpaper".
5. Open up your Camera Roll folder and locate the screenshot of your contact info.
6. Tap the image, position it so the time display doesn't obscure your contact info.
7. Choose "Set Lock Screen" and you're done!
