Add Value to Your Life
In the world of advertising the word “NEW” gets a lot of attention. It seems that there are a never-ending flow of “NEW” and improved product offerings. As manufacturers understand the importance of enhancing their product line, you should also continually work at improving yourself. Author, Eric Hoffer said, “In times of change the learners shall inherit the earth, while the learned will find themselves beautifully equipped to deal with the world that no longer exists.”
If I could give young, (and not so young) folks, one bit of advice it would be to, never stop learning. I personally have over 300 pages of notes taken from business books that I have read. Early on in my career I noticed something interesting happening as a result of my reading habits. I was able to engage in intelligent, informed conversations with co-workers and managers on a variety of business topics. When an opportunity came along I was perceived to be ready and given a management position.
Identify what your "market" values. Think of yourself as an Apple product. Determine that you will release a new and improved version of yourself every year. Improve the areas of your life to deliver value and opportunity will come.
