It’s not unusual to find homes for sale that are in need of some updating. Indeed they are a large segment of the market and just what many home buyers are looking for. Design is a matter of taste, and while one buyer may love the new flooring in a home, another may not, or they might not be so crazy about those brand new cabinets or countertops.

I often advise home sellers to leave major projects but do a quick refresh like painting walls and ceilings, cleaning carpets, or perking-up the landscaping.

If you’re a potential home seller, or even if you’re planning to stay in your home, there are lots of do-it-yourself projects that can add value without breaking the bank.

Oh, and one other thing… in this video, Trinity mentions vinyl door decals. I have no idea what she’s talking about. If you do, leave me a comment. I’m really curious.

If you’re itching to upgrade your home but are intimidated by costs, the following home improvements deliver a big bang for the buck.

Change the hardware. Create an entirely different look by replacing drawer pulls, knobs ad faucets.

Add a little paint. Whether it’s in the kitchen, living room or dining room, an accent wall is a simple way to incorporate a color you love without going overboard. Another popular alternative is to paint the ceiling.

Update the entryway. From repainting the front door to incorporating vinyl door decals, jazzing up the front of your home is a surefire way to creating a welcoming environment.

Install hardwood floors. Hardwood floors are a popular choice among homeowners looking to update their space. And do-it-yourselfers can complete the look with their own two hands. Tongue-and-groove flooring that fits together like a puzzle is a safe bet for anyone looking to go it alone.

Add a porch or a patio. Whether their semi-enclosed, attached to the homes front entrance, or built at a ground level, the addition of a porch or patio extends your home’s living space and ups its value.
