Add This Cultural Trait to Your Work Place - An Authentic Self.

Harness wants to use this week's International Women’s Day as an opportunity to profile some of the amazing female staff who reflect both the gender and cultural diversity that make up a notable part of the Harness team.?Each day this week we will feature a different woman who will bring some thoughts and insights about how Australian workplaces can continue to benefit from both having a gender and culturally diverse work force.

MONDAY 6th March - Meet Titi Salau - People Services Division Manager, Harness Energy, Brisbane, Australia

Originally from Nigeria in West Africa, Titi came to Australia with her husband and three sons over 8 yrs ago; and?her lovely daughter was born shortly after! As a career woman, she migrated to Australia as a skilled worker but promptly identified a lack of local support services to connect skilled immigrant workers with organisations that had indicated a need for those skills. Fortunately, Titi has had the opportunity to work with a Local Council, State Government and thankfully, 3 yrs ago, found her home at Harness Energy where she has been growing from strength to strength ever since.?

Asking her about this week being International Women's Week and her thoughts as a professional working woman, she talked about her cultural background in Nigeria as one that is very hospitable. The Nigerian culture is steeped in authentic care and checking-in on family, friends and neighbours. This richness of care is not just something expressed within non-working relationships but also at work and Titi believes that organisations in Australia could work on being better in?this area. While there is a dedicated ‘R U OK’ day to check in on employee's wellbeing - Titi believes this should occur every day and at every workplace.

She concluded with this comment, "By everyone at work being open and caring, people can bring their whole selves to work and consequently perform better at their jobs because of this." Titi Salau

This is surely a thought that everyone could take on board irrespective of gender, cultural background or country of origin. Thank you Titi.
