What Have You Learnt Since You Started Working at Hopton?

I've quickly realised that Business Intelligence (BI) is far more expansive than I thought. With Microsoft Fabric, BI and analytics have evolved beyond just Power BI. Integrating?various tools within Microsoft Fabric has opened up new possibilities for data-driven decision-making, making the field even more dynamic and exciting.

What Was It Like Transitioning from ERP Consulting to BI?

After nearly a decade as an ERP consultant, I assumed the switch to BI consulting would be straightforward. However, it turned out to be more challenging than I anticipated. ERP projects often span months or years, while BI projects are generally shorter with quick turnarounds. At Hopton, we work in a more agile way, handling multiple projects simultaneously and delivering results much sooner. This fast-paced nature keeps things interesting and ensures that no two days are ever the same.

What Are Your Goals for the Next Six Months?

Over the next six months, I will refine my analysis and design skills to deliver better, more insightful solutions. I'm also looking forward to completing my Azure Fundamentals and Data Fundamentals qualifications, which will bolster my knowledge of?cloud-based data solutions. Additionally, I plan to explore other products like Pyramid Analytics to offer a broader range of solutions.

What Are Some of the Challenges You've Faced So Far?

One of the main challenges has been the sheer variety of work, as each project often requires a different set of skills and knowledge, necessitating quick upskilling. This constant learning curve is both exciting and rewarding. Staying updated with the latest tools and technologies, such as new features in Microsoft Fabric or advancements in Pyramid Analytics, is crucial and requires dedication and a proactive approach to learning. To help manage workloads and ensure smooth project progress, we've brought in Claire as an Ops, People & Projects Assistant. Claire's support already has shown that working as a team, we can manage multiple projects simultaneously whilst maintaining high standards across all tasks.?

What Are Some of the Successes You've Had So Far?

One of my key successes has been leveraging my existing skills in Business Central to develop custom extensions and detailed reports. This has allowed me to provide tailored solutions that meet specific client needs. Another significant achievement has been my work with Azure Data Factory, where I've successfully completed several projects that automate labour-intensive manual processes for our clients.

What's Your Favourite Thing About Hopton?

One of the things I love most about working at Hopton is the dynamic nature of the work. Our ability to handle and turn around multiple projects within short timescales ensures that there's always something new and exciting to tackle. Most importantly, the team at Hopton is fantastic. We have a collaborative and supportive work environment where everyone works closely together to deliver projects of all sizes and complexities. The camaraderie and mutual respect among team members make it a pleasure to come to work each day.
