Adapting to the new world as a CEO in Life Sciences…
Yvette Cleland
CEO at Cpl Life Sciences - Nominated by SIA as one of the top 50 most powerful women in staffing globally.
As CEO of a Biotech or Pharmaceutical company you can sometimes find the C-suite can be a lonely place. Whilst you no doubt have constant contact with your teams or spent (Pre-Covid) countless hours participating in conferences, conventions and seminars, these aren’t exactly the right places to form meaningful professional relationships.
Three years ago we started bringing together senior groups of professionals from Chief Medical Officers (CMO’s) to Senior Vice Presidents of Biopharma in London, UK and Harvard, US to debate 3 topics over dinner. Always the most enlightening of discussion points was “what keeps you awake at night”. These intimate group dinners had a 90% reengagement level and now have waiting lists for attendance.
The feedback from each event was based on how refreshing it was to recognise that ultimately there will be a range of issues and challenges that someone in the room has already effectively dealt with. The sharing of this knowledge and support from a peer initiated new ideas and shone a light in an area of distress or self-questioning around the best resolution. Sustaining a great network requires time, trust and an ongoing series of conversations with people who respect each other. The summits achieved this at every level. Ultimately this focused cohort bringing peers to the table on the basis of strong common ground gave enlightening outcomes.
On the 29th of July we are bringing together an intimate group of CEO’s from the Biopharma industry to address several key questions, on this occasion virtually. This intimate group, working under Chatham House Rules will address the following:
Covid-19 & beyond: Is this good or bad news for raising finance for life science companies?
Will creativity be needed to raise new sources of Finance?
And
What keeps you awake at night as a Life Science leader in these current times?
Spending an hour and a half of your valuable time with your peers may well bring some innovation of thought you had not previously considered. Peer groups give you a process to help you find your own answers. They allow you to hear the methods other people have used to solve problems and to learn from what they have done, they give you permission to pivot and try a different path. In an emerging Covid19 world there have been a plethora of questions regarding how the world moves on. Sometimes it would be interesting in a safe environment to understand what your fellow CEO is doing in these challenging times to address the ever growing questions that face the industry in the midst of this global pandemic.
Executives need a peer network for a variety of reasons. As businesses continue to be disrupted by Covid19 we need to make the shift from stand-alone to collaborative professionals. The need to keep up with the pace of transformation, as well as the blurring of lines between businesses, has led to the realisation that there is value in learning from and sharing experiences with peers.
This event will bring together C-suite executives from a cross-section of innovative life science organisations from the UK, US and Europe enabling you to network with a peer group facing similar challenges to your business.
