Bringing Aluminium Doors & Technology Together.
Welcome to the latest update from Dortech Doors, a proud subsidiary of Dortech Architectural Systems Limited. In this newsletter, we delve into key developments shaping the future of building design and construction, with a special focus on the 2025 Future Homes Standard, the outcomes of COP28, and UK building regulations.

COP28: United Nations Climate Change Conference
The recent COP28 conference, a pivotal event in the global climate action calendar, reinforced the urgent need for carbon emission reduction across all sectors. The UK, as a participant, has pledged to adopt measures that align with the global agenda of sustainable development, impacting architectural designs and material selections.

Understanding the 2025 Future Homes Standard
The 2025 Future Homes Standard is a transformative approach to residential construction in the UK, aiming to reduce carbon emissions in new homes by up to 80% compared to current levels. It emphasises the use of energy-efficient materials, triple glazing, and low-carbon heating technologies. These changes, in line with the UK's net zero target by 2050, signify a major shift in how homes will be designed and constructed (CBRE UK).

UK Building Regulations - Approved Document L
Approved Document L sets the benchmark for thermal performance in buildings. Recent updates have reduced the U-values required for doors in renovations from 1.8 W/m2K to 1.4 W/m2K. For new-builds, a U-value of 1.2 W/m2K is nominal, but 1.4 W/m2K is acceptable with additional measures. This heightened focus on energy efficiency showcases the need for superior door solutions. However, many traditional materials like timber and PVCU struggle to meet these stringent U-value requirements, highlighting the superiority of advanced options like our aluminum doors
