Recently we went to a resort for a staycation. Far away from the urban jungle to a place nestled with greens as far as the eye can see. The natural habitat of the resort had some permanent residents of Roosters, Woodpeckers, Mynas, Parakeets, White Cockatoos, a couple of Peacocks, Peahens and a small batch of Peachicks. (apologies to the lots more who have made this place their home). They try and live in harmony in spite of the odd disturbances caused by the excited pet dog guests who also visit the hotel or the territorial fights.
One morning, at breakfast a Peahen was surveying the scene of all guests loading their plates with eggs, bacon, fruits, porridge and the usual suspects of a luxury breakfast spread. They spotted one such table vacated by a couple. Along with her two chicks in tow she perches herself on the table and helps herself to a sumptuous buffet of left overs with her little ones. In the midst of it they are chased away by the hotel team. Mother and chicks and all.
The mother is undeterred with the rude interruption and makes her way again with her little ones. The chicks had learnt a new way of sourcing food. Guessing by their confident strides, a daily drill.

I felt let down for the animal /bird kind who would probably become dependent on leftovers and processed food.
?After a couple of hours on one of our exploratory urges, I spotted the Peahen and her chicks again. They were neck deep in raking the soil for worms. I couldn’t help but be pleased to the foresight of the mother, who was in the process of making her chicks street smart, circumstance savvy.
Learn the right way, but there is also another way. Adapt to your circumstances however remember the basics.A wonderful lesson learnt in this world of clicking.
