ADAPTING TO CHANGE IN THE AGILE AGE

ADAPTING TO CHANGE IN THE AGILE AGE

Your ability to deal with change is not a straightforward one. People who resist change and prefer the familiar, face a vast number of challenges – companies struggle to cater for employees who resist change in the modern organisational context. And an inability to deal with change might restrict a person from seeking career change and growth.?

Those who crave change also face challenges. A need for novelty that goes unfulfilled because of a slowly changing or routine environment might lead to boredom and disengagement too. So adapting to change is about more than just learning to deal with change. It is about learning to also deal with the speed of change.?

Those who struggle with change cite a number of reasons: loss of job or security is the top issue. Poor communication and management of the change process is number two, followed by fear of the unknown, loss of control, and loss of competence. There are many more contributors, but it is worthwhile to start with the top problems.?

Reframing your perspective could prove to be powerful: an inability to adapt to change is a sure threat to job security. If you can’t adjust your job and skills to fit the requirements, you become unsuitable for the environment. So embracing change and ‘going with the flow’ might very well be the very skill that gives security. Similarly, we wear losing control or not being competent in the new environment – the more you resist, the longer it will take you to become competent. Ignoring the change gives no mastery or control. Engaging in the process, getting as much information as you can, and upskilling yourself proactively not only gives security, but also makes you a frontrunner for promotion, or the least likely option for retrenchment.?

Nature has shown us that the Agile survives. The Agile mindset for business can be embraced by the individual with great effect – business is changing, and that change is an unstoppable force. The most Agile will not only survive, but thrive. The good news is that the required skills are trainable and coachable.?Contact me?if I can be useful in your journey.?

Well said Lize! An additional struggle we see too often is where organizations "change" on a superficial level and continue to operate and expect deliverables per norm prior to "the change".
