Adaptable Blotter's Live, Dynamic Export
Exporting grid data has never been so intuitive or powerful
At Adaptable Tools we constantly try to re-imagine what an advanced grid should offer.
AdaptableBlotter.JS - our FinTech HTML5 grid - is not simply an improvement on what financial and other advanced users currently have; it is a game-changer with features like integrated Audit, Cell Validation and Calculated Columns that redefine what a Blotter can do.
Each function in AdaptableBlotter.JS includes new, exciting functionality and options that were simply not previously available. And Export is no exception, offering dynamic data export to numerous destinations with 'live' updates as the source changes.
Reports
At the heart of AdaptableBlotter.JS export is the 'report' - a powerful cross-column query that you define yourself, containing a list of columns that you select. The report is named, saved and available for re-use, and is dynamically evaluated each time it is exported. So you can create reports like 'Trades Done Today' or 'My Latest Activity'.
The query in the report can reference as many columns as required, and can include a huge array of column values, filters and bespoke ranges.
To export data from AdaptableBlotter.JS you simply select the desired report and export location from the Export Toolbar in the Blotter Dashboard. AdaptableBlotter.JS will evaluate the data for the report dynamically and export it to the appropriate location.
Typically grids only let you export whatever data is currently visible, meaning that each time you want to export, you need first to filter and shape your data to suit your needs. By using reports, AdaptableBlotter.JS avoids this limitation and lets you export whatever you want, irrespective of whether the data is visible or contiguous.
Predefined Ranges
As well as creating your own reports you can use one of the predefined ranges that ship with AdaptableBlotter.JS. These are currently
- All Data
- Visible Data
- Selected Cells
You can also export any report from the Export popup.
Export Destinations
When exporting data the current choice of destinations (with more being added soon) for the export are:
- CSV
- The clipboard
- Excel
- Symphony chat
Live Export
If you are using AdaptableBlotter.JS inside the OpenFin container, you can additionally benefit from 'Live Updates'. This ensures that, as the data in the Blotter changes, Excel too will automatically update.
See in the video below how edits made to data inside AdaptableBlotter.JS are immediately reflected in the exported report in Excel.
AdaptableBlotter.JS users who have ipushpull accounts can also take advantage of Live Updates while also benefitting from the many other data collaboration and synchronisation benefits that ipushpull offers.
Rethinking what a grid does
Like other functions in AdaptableBlotter.JS, Export pushes back the boundaries of grid functionality, helping you to be more productive and efficient and giving you better controlled management of your data.
