Hi everyone, I'm a participant in Bangkit Academy led by Google, Tokopedia, Gojek, & Traveloka. I'm from learning path Machine Learning. My Group study is ML-11. After joining the Instructor Led Training (ILT) Soft Skill Adaptability and Resilience Session by my instructor Joshua Gunawan, I learned a lot of what was conveyed in the speaker session, related to how we adapt in a new environment, very useful when we will plunge into the world of society.
In this short essay, I will describe myself and relate it to the 5 things needed for adaptation that existed in me during my participation in the Bangkit Batch 2 Program.
Ways of Interacting
During my time as a Bangkit Batch 2 participant, I adapted by interacting with participants spread throughout Indonesia, lots of interactions with colleagues both in the same grade, under the grade, and also students who already have experience in the industrial world who are also still in college, I got all these things through this program. Of course, the way I interact with my friends uses Indonesian. Once I use English to improve my English communication skills, I often use the Discord platform provided by the Bangkit Team to interact and find my identity. Apart from that, every week there are routine consultation activities carried out with study group colleagues together with one of the mentors, namely Kak Haris Yafie, where in these consultations apart from training how we communicate from small things, such as the development of our learning progress, obstacles experienced during the week, and our needs during the Bangkit program are to make this routine consultation activity a forum for interacting with colleagues, whether watching videos together online, having fun together playing a game, and other things. This is a fairly good approach in encouraging rapid and targeted adaptation, which will be very useful for our continued participation in this program.
Ways of Achieving
Throughout my journey through the Rise program, I set several goals for myself. My main goal is to take part in the Bangkit program as best as possible by absorbing the knowledge I have gained, then teaching the knowledge I have gained to my colleagues who have not had the opportunity to take part in this program, and of course graduating from this program with the title of best graduate from batch 2 in 2023. At the same time with the capstone team that I had previously formed, we had a directional goal as team motivation, namely the hope that the project we initiated would be the best project to get incubation funds which were used to implement our project as a humanitarian project and be useful as a sustainable goal. I have aspirations and hopes that after I gain valuable knowledge from here, to bring this machine learning technology into the world of education, because I am an education graduate, of course I really want education in Indonesia to carry out the right transformation towards digitalization technology in accordance with development of the era of society 5.0. Later, as my final project, I also want to raise the topic of problems that exist in the world of education, one of which can be solved by Machine Learning algorithm technology. Of course, besides that, there is a challenge, namely that I have to study seriously regarding the material offered by Bangkit, both Material Tech and Material Soft Skills, so that it can help me realize my desired goals.
Ways of Learning
When I got up, I had a study technique of 1 hour to understand the theory through videos provided by Coursera, 1 hour to do a practical either provided by Coursera or independently, and 25 minutes to take a short break before entering the next sub-material. With the Coursera platform, it really helps me in studying Machine Learning material. Apart from that, I take part in material sessions with experts in their fields which are held every 2 weeks, namely ILT-Tech (discussing learning path material) and ILT-Soft Skills (discussing recognizing existing competencies in individuals), with activities This provides more experience and insight for me who is new to machine learning. It is also important to follow positive communities that are useful for my self-development, which I get on various social media. My challenge in this case, because I am a non-IT student, is that it takes quite a lot of time and energy to be able to understand every material given, but I don't give up. I am passionate and enthusiastic about learning this knowledge which I think will be very useful in future social life.
Ways of Working
To improve machine learning competency, in the Bangkit program every participant is required to take part in a capstone program. There are two types of capstone programs, namely company capstone and product capstone. I prioritize choosing capstone products because besides being a non-IT major, I want to try making a product that is useful for other humans that is integrated with machine learning. In this product capstone, it consists of 6 teams combined with different learning paths. The adaptations I made included how to interact with teammates, align on common goals, and communication between teams. The thing that I maintain while participating in this awakening program is my health, both mentally and physically, to maintain stability in studying and working on my projects in this awakening program.
Ways of Thinking
Adapting the mindset that I instilled while participating in the Bangkit program, gradually eliminating the Fixed Mindset pattern that existed within me, such as the fear of failure in learning something new, not being able to interact well with my colleagues, more often carrying out multitasking activities, and other things. I slowly eliminated all these things starting from my own intentions and also had a new perspective through the approach given in the ILT-Soft Skills session, which really helped me adapt to the fixed mindset that I had. Apart from that, I developed the concept of my Growth Mindset pattern, such as how to manage time well and believe in myself that I am capable of doing it, the ability to adapt to new environments, problem solving using critical thinking, and determining a priority scale pattern that convinces me to not afraid to fail in learning new things.
In conclusion of this short essay, here are five aspects of my adaptability while participating in the Bangkit program. I can't do these things well just by myself, but with the support of colleagues, mentors, and also great instructors who help me to adapt well. I believe that adaptability, whether in interacting, achieving goals, learning, working, or thinking, is the key to success in realizing individual dreams both in social life.
