Adapt, mindset & ambition…#winning

We have seen it with our own eyes, those that adapt successfully come through challenges and are probably stronger for it, those that do not, fail. Being open to change and transformation, flexible to absorb new learnings, implementing and embedding what we have found relevant and beneficial, will help us win and evolve at pace. Being kind to ourselves and those around us will also help!

We are all adapting to our dynamic landscape. Whilst we adapt, we also need to think about our mindset. A growth mindset has never been so relevant for leaders that want to embrace our new reality. Great leaders do not just want to survive they aspire to thrive in change. 

As a leader you must be tuned in to your own mindset, your own resilience, be self-aware but also continually develop your insight and awareness of the mindset of those around you, your people. Taking time to understand where they are ‘at’ in terms of what is on their minds, their mental health, home life as well as work priorities all this ‘technicolour’ is fundamental to insight and building resilience in your biggest asset, your people, in times of change to enable you to unlock your and their power and deliver your 2021 plan.

Although you may have had to adapt and no doubt will continue to do so, your 2021 plan must remain ambitious. If you want to move forward, make progress, achieve your goals.  To be ambitious, you do however need to feel confident in your business landscape. You must have the courage to face challenges and barriers to progress head-on because if you do not, your business and people will not adapt, survive, and thrive and mindsets all around you will diminish.

Over the last few months, we have talked about making the most of your people, their energy, and power, this remains fundamental. Your human assets will help you to adapt and successfully come through any challenge stronger. The question is how do you ensure they are set up for success to enable them to adapt with a positive and proactive mindset to remain ambitious despite the backdrop? Some businesses will fail, others will reap the opportunity and survive, those that survive will do so by creating the conditions to flourish and fully leverage their people. 

There is no better time than right now to ensure you fully understand what you have, a full review of the business to understand what has changed, a health check on your business is a priority. Understanding not only the mind of your customer but also what needs to change in terms of your business, your people, to reflect the consumer change. Matching the external macro elements with complementary internal resources is key. Both need to be in sync to fully mobilise a successful 2021 plan and bring your vision to life #winning.

How can you test the belief that you have the people and processes in place to ensure the challenges your business faces will be met successfully? 

This month think about the opportunity to ‘health check’ your business. A simple health check will provide you with the confidence that you have the right people in the right place at the right time, doing the right things to ensure your business will perform at its best. Removing barriers to performance and progress.

This month’s KILLER QUESTIONS

  1. What are you going to need to stop doing?
  2. What are you doing that is relevant and how can you do more of this?
  3. What are you not doing that you need to do?
  4. How will you address issues and change to maintain or grow performance?
  5. What help do you need to make progress at pace?

The answers to these simple questions help you to get clear on your current landscape and where you need to act.  A simple performance health check can help you to quickly identify where the issues are, what needs to be prioritised, who needs to do what, and help you to unlock the potential and power of your people. 

I am working with my clients to do exactly that, delivering a simple ‘Performance Health Check’ a diagnostic that helps them to identify where the issues are, their barriers to performance and progress and then action plan what and how to mobilise change that in turn focuses resources on the biggest priority, the biggest win! The output of a health check fuels focus, ownership and accountability and enables actions to be seamlessly integrated into the 2021 business plan.

People automatically feel better when they can get operational issues and barriers to progress, as well as what is on their mind, out. Helping people like you organise these challenges and action plan what can be done to resolve them helps your business adapt quickly. It supports your personal and business challenges and facilitates your business to adapt, develop a growth mindset whilst continuing to be as ambitious as you can be in a dynamic and continuously changing landscape.  It really is a no brainer.
