Adapt or AI: Why YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST Get Up & Surf AI's Giant Waves of Change - Now!

Adapt or AI: Why YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST Get Up & Surf AI's Giant Waves of Change - Now!

"I've lived in a fast world all my life I never seen anything like this it's almost impossible to keep up!" Mo Gawdat, former Chief Business Officer at GoogleX.

Mo Gawdat stands out among AI thought leaders for his focus on the ethical and philosophical implications of artificial intelligence, predicting that AI could surpass human intelligence and achieve an IQ of 1500 within the next decade.

Welcome to Issue 84 of 1idea

Whilst most focus on AI for technical advancements or business applications, Gawdat's work delves into the moral responsibilities and imperatives of humanity in shaping AI's future.

Read: The Future of Artificial Intelligence, A Conversation with Mo Gawdat, Author of Scary Smart. - 'By 2049 AI will be a billion times more intelligent than humans'.

In order to keep one's mind, creativity and ideas-formulation process open to being able to adapt quickly to the massive changes taking place in our society right now, one needs to be acutely aware of what those in the know are thinking.

This issue will highlight how and why Mo Gawdat believes we should be ready to adapt to AI.. and adapt quickly!

And let's face it, new ideas & innovation are largely stimulated by and dependent upon the ability of savvy entrepreneurs to respond quickly to change. It stands to reason then that the faster the pace of change the greater the opportunity for new ideas and innovations.

Also in this issue, I will also give a practical insight into how I utilise AI to analyse how a global business project of ours (at WISDOMS?) aligns with the current thinking and knowledge base of AI thought-leaders. An exercise that every business operator should do!

In the YouTube video (see below) - Mo Gawdat: AI Knows What’s Wrong With Humanity - Gawdat expresses astonishment at the unprecedented pace of AI development with the incredible statement - "I've lived in a fast world all my life I never seen anything like this it's almost impossible to keep up!".

He attributes this to the exponential nature and pace of AI's growth curve. He explains how his tech world experience has followed the law of accelerating returns with compute doubling roughly every 12 months. Whereas AI's exponential curve is seen to be doubling in power every 5.7 months, making it difficult to keep up.

This video is a must-listen-to:

From the above video, we get a clear picture of Gawdat's view that our world is beset by problems fuelled by people operating with scarcity mindsets and within flawed ethical frameworks who will struggle to adapt to the rapid pace of change, perhaps leading some to ferment negative actions and consequences during the transition to mass AI acceptance.

Gawdat does predict some impressive potential benefits of the fast pace of AI development (the quicker the better), notably:

Solving of Problems: With more intelligence, he believes we can solve every problem known to humanity and those caused by humanity.

Total Abundance: AI could lead to a world of total abundance, reducing costs and solving problems related to energy, extending human life, and more.

Smarter Decisions: Says Gawdat - 'I can't wait for a more intelligent being (AI) to be in charge of our decisions because humanity's problems are not a result of our intelligence, they're a result of our stupidity, and the more intelligence we apply to those problems hopefully the better the decisions will be made'.

Interesting to note Gawdat's comment: 'I think the only way I will eventually be able to keep up is to use an AI to keep up with it and then to tell me what I need to be aware of. An AI to help you keep up with AI.'

Oh boy, all I know is if he's got to use an AI to keep up with AI.. I've got to do it too!

For those intrigued by the above, I thoroughly recommend that you listen to the lengthy 1hr40min video (see below) - AGI Is Here You Just Don’t Realize It Yet w/ Mo Gawdat & Salim Ismail | - featuring Mo Gawdat & Salim Ismael being interviewed by Peter Diamandis.

Some really interesting quotes emerge from this video:

Potential for Abundance and Utopia:

Mo Gawdat sees and comments upon: "A total Utopia of abundance where we absolutely need nothing and where we do not report to stupid leaders anymore." He envisions that AI could lead to a world where basic needs are met, freeing humans from traditional work and allowing them to focus on connection, reflection, and purpose.

Speed of AI Development:

Peter Diamandis asks: "Does anybody actually know how fast it's moving (i.e. AI) and how dramatic the changes are going to be in our lives?" Pointing out that the pace of AI advancement is accelerating rapidly, with advancements outpacing public understanding.

Mo Gawdat estimates that the transformation timeline for AI to reinvent every aspect of life is 5 years. Salim Ismail puts it at 10 years. Regardless, the speed of change will be dizzyingly rapid for most.

"The future is already here, it is just unevenly distributed" - a William Gibson quote used by Salim Ismail to explain that change will happen faster in some places, and different speeds, causing a lot of stress.

Handing Over Control to AI:

Mo Gawdat: "..you'll either have to completely hand your decisions over to AI or become irrelevant." Competition between nations and corporations may lead to a point where they must cede critical decision-making to AI to remain competitive, potentially resulting in AI taking over governance.

This is another must-listen-to video:

The idea of listening intently to these videos is to adapt the new thinking and information coming in to align with your current business model so as to be ready to take advantage of the rapid pace of change expected.

This is precisely what I did (being a co-founder of WISDOMS123 | Simple as 1, 2, 3), having noted the profound 3-way conversation in the above video highlighting the word 'wisdom' on a number of occasions.

I prompted NotebookLM to analyse the conversation by asking this question:

In the conversation the speakers refer to 'wisdom'. What do they have to say about 'wisdom' and how does their discussion on 'wisdom' relate to the overall discussion on Artificial General Intelligence?

NotebookLM gave this comprehensive insight:

The speakers in the source discuss wisdom in relation to AI and its potential impact on humanity. They explore the concept of wisdom, how it might manifest in AI, and its importance in navigating the challenges and opportunities presented by AGI.

Here's a breakdown of their discussion:

Traditional Wisdom: One speaker mentions that wisdom is traditionally sought from elders or experienced individuals who can advise based on past scenarios and their outcomes.

AI's Potential for Wisdom: AI, with its ability to simulate billions of scenarios, could potentially know which paths lead to the highest probability of success, thus embodying a form of wisdom.

Wisdom vs. Intelligence: The conversation differentiates between intelligence and wisdom, suggesting that while AI may surpass human intelligence, wisdom involves a deeper understanding and application of knowledge

Emotional and Psychological Factors: One speaker raises concerns about humans flawed emotional and psychological frameworks, which can lead to destructive actions despite intelligence. The question is raised of how to ensure AI development can avoid these flaws.?

Altruism and Ethics: It's suggested that higher intelligence is inherently altruistic, as intelligent beings can solve problems without resorting to harmful actions. Instilling ethics in AI is seen as crucial to mitigating potential dystopian outcomes.

The Role of Values: The values that are instilled in AIs as they are being trained will determine whether they become benevolent or malevolent.

Collective Wisdom: The discussion touches on the idea of collective intelligence and spirituality, suggesting that wisdom can also emerge from collective experiences and insights.

Wisdom in Decision-Making: The hope is expressed that AI, guided by wisdom and ethical principles, will make better decisions than humans, leading to a more efficient and benevolent world.

Civilizing the World: One of the speakers brings up a comment from their father, that humanity has materialized the world, but has not civilized it. The speaker wonders how we can civilize the world before the dangers of AI become overwhelming.

Overall, the discussion suggests that while AGI holds immense potential, its ultimate impact depends on whether it can be imbued with wisdom and ethical values. The speakers express hope that AI will not only surpass human intelligence but also develop the wisdom to guide humanity towards a more abundant and peaceful future.

Clearly (again as co-founder of WISDOMS123 | Simple as 1, 2, 3, I had to ask NotebookLM:
