The Actuation Gateway to Employee Experience: You’ll be surprised – It’s your managers!

The Actuation Gateway to Employee Experience: You’ll be surprised – It’s your managers!

So, you want to attract, engage, and retain your best talent??

I have spent a lot of time last week reflecting on employee experience, and the art and the science of creating a healthy culture, environment and supplying all the tools, skills and motivators for employees to thrive while doing their best work.

Understanding the principles and behaviors of your lived culture is the foundation. Yes I am talking values – not the ones on your investor deck slide on “Mission, Vision and Values”. I am speaking to the LIVED values in your company, comprised by each person in the company.

Upon that foundation, understanding the current and future Employee Value Proposition (EVP) is the framework by which you determine areas for improvement. While each lever in the EVP is core in a great workplace, each company has a different weighting.

Do you know what your EVP is?

?? Do you know which lever(s) are the ones that attract your best hires?

?? Do you know which levers are the ones that engage your best performers?

??? Do you know what keeps your people retained?

These questions, while essential, are not the toughest part about creating a great Employee Experience. As executives (CEOs, Founders, CHROs, etc) you can create a plan for the most magnificent EVP, however, you need to recognize that the executive bench does not have control over how the day-to-day experience works. The connective tissue that needs to align and create your EVP is your managers: 1st time managers, middle managers, directors, leaders.

Managers? They're the secret sauce to make it happen. Here's why:

They're Your Frontline Heroes: Managers are the ones in the trenches with your team every day. How they live and breathe the EVP sets the vibe for everyone else. They make sure your crew feels the EVP's perks day in, day out.

Keeping it Real: Managers are the translators. They turn EVP jargon into stuff your team can actually do. They make sure everyone knows how their work fits into the big picture, keeping everyone on the same page.

Tailored TLC: Your team isn't one-size-fits-all, and managers get that. They're like personal trainers, customizing development plans and shout-outs to keep every team member motivated and growing.

Listening In: Managers are your EVP's eyes and ears. They pick up on what's working and what's not, feeding that info back to HQ so you can fine-tune your EVP game.

The EVP Sales Team: When it's hiring time, managers are the ones selling your EVP to potential recruits. And once folks are in, they're the ones making sure they stick around by delivering on those EVP promises.

Let’s also look at some shocking statistics:

Manager enablement and invest data, is just as shocking:

The pivotal role of managers in executing an effective Employee Value Proposition (EVP) cannot be overstated. Neglecting their development undermines the very foundation of your organization's culture and employee experience. By investing in comprehensive training and support for managers, you're not only enhancing their capabilities but also safeguarding your ability to attract, engage, and retain top talent. It's time to prioritize manager development – your EVP and your people deserve nothing less.
