No, actually, it ain't chopped liver, Can't we all just eat along? And more morsels

Welcome to Livin' on the Veg, a weekly newsletter that highlights updates from the world of plant-based food (Relax — it’ll be fun!) If you like what you’re reading, make sure to subscribe using the button above. Would love to hear your feedback in the comments below.

Carolyn Blackman wants you to know that her former Canadian Jewish News colleague Frances Craft knows how to ensure that vegetarians — even vegans — don't have to be passed over at passover. "She has been making vegetarian seders for a number of years because she has up to seven vegetarians at her table, including three or four vegans," Blackman writes. "...my son who is a meat eater, says the seder is about the people, not the meat," she quotes Craft as saying. There's a recipe for Apple-matzah kugel, Chocolate mousse cake and, of course, vegetarian chopped liver.

Plant-based meat sales were up by 279.8% for the week ending on March 14 as people stocked up to do a lot more eating at home (OK, some hoarding), according to Nielsen data, reported by Camila Domonoske for NPR. Canned meat was up 187.8% and fresh chicken 51.8%, by comparison. Oat milk was also in heavy demand: up 476.7% for the week. What had the highest uptick? Aerosol disinfectants (+518.9%) and thermometers (+497.7%) ...

Quote of the Week [?]

"The move to plant-based options is not a trend – it is a fundamental shift in consumer behavior. It’s motivated by a wide variety of issues – from personal health and food sensitivities to concerns for the planet and animals. A key component to accelerating that trend is the ability to create everyday products that appeal to omnivores/flexitarians – not just vegans/vegetarians – much like Beyond/Impossible did with meat."

One of the (thankfully disappearing) tropes about veg eaters is that they eat really weird, borderline inedible stuff. Remember the Tofurky episode of Everybody Loves Raymond? Well, it turns out that everybody loves the same kinds of comfort food, Tanya Flink of VegNews reports. There's nothing on this top 10 list you haven't had a few hundred times, whatever the exact ingredients. Take comfort in that.

There's not much chance there's any dating scene right now. In fact, Caroline Dworin at The New Yorker says flatly: "If you are currently single, the only person you should be dating right now is yourself." But, even in the best of times, according to vegworld magazine, "We all know that dating as a vegan can be really challenging…" So just dropping it here that they are "launching a brand new vegan dating column with vegan dating expert Karine aka Vegan Cupid!" My unsolicited advice: Don't give up on love during our great stay-at-home experiment. But just bookmark this for future use.

I hope whatever you eat you're taking care of yourself, your families, and each other. Food is a wonderful way to be happy, and to socialize. So break bread with loved ones and be extra kind and generous to the folks delivering your takeout.

Good read! STAY SAFE, STAY MIGHTY, BE BLESSED John ??????
