Activity < Productivity
Last week marked the 17th Annual Leadership Breakfast, hosted by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota and DeSoto Counties.
This event annually recognizes remarkable individuals who've made deep impacts within our local community (and is one my favorite events to attend).
Traditionally, the morning begins with a half-hour set aside specifically for networking and reconnecting with old acquaintances.
Observing my conversations during the event most started something like this:
"Hey! How have you been? How's work?"
To which, my response was...
"Going great! It's been busy!"
Busy...
It's a common phrase we all use.
It appears to be a straightforward answer to a question that could warrant a far more extensive one.
"Busy" suggests activity, which immediately paints an appealing picture.
However, it's crucial to distinguish between activity, and productivity.
The Point?
We frequently wear our busy schedules as a badge of honor, reveling in the notion that others perceive us as constantly on the go.
But constantly being occupied by inconsequential tasks fails to advance our objectives, missions or causes.
What turns us into productive individuals is focusing our energy on the (right) tasks.
Thank you for sharing this human moment with me. Have a great day!
